Cataloging Librarian Position

Tennessee State University is a Historically Black University (HBCU) located in the "destination" city of Nashville, Tennessee. TSU is a doctorate granting institution, which provides  over twenty master degrees and over forty undergraduate degree programs. The Brown-Daniel Library has an opening for an assistant professor/tenure track librarian  in its Cataloging Department. Under the supervision of the Head of Cataloging, the Cataloging Librarian will have the following responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •    Original and copy cataloging in all formats, including print monographs and serials, Internet resources, and A/V materials
    
  •     Creating MARC records and updating records to meet RDA standards using OCLC Connexion and Innovative Interfaces Sierra
    
  •     Processing monthly discards
    
  •     Supervising, training, and evaluating work-study students
    
  •     Managing and compiling the monthly new books list, heading reports (for authority control), monthly cataloging statistics, and fixing problems identified by the URL Checker
    
  •     Assist in developing, documenting, and implementing local cataloging policies
    
  •     Assist in identifying, planning, and implementing special projects and retro-cataloging activities as needed
    
  •     Selecting and ordering departmental supplies
    
  •     Creating LibGuides and serving as library liaison for selected departments, including selecting and ordering monographs as needed
    
  •     Serving on library committees as needed
    

Minimum Requirements:

Masters in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution. Degree must have been completed by May 2018 and include course work in Cataloging and Metadata standards. One year of experience in an academic library. Candidate is responsible for processing and packing withdrawn items and must be able to lift 10 lbs and push book carts.

Preferred:

Candidates with academic cataloging experience are preferred.  Also, it is preferred that candidates have familiarity with Sierra (Innovative Interfaces, Inc) cataloging module.  Knowledge of RDA standards and knowledge of how to search OCLC Connexion Client would be a plus.
