CCC Career-Tech Counselor, Butler, Motivates Technical Honor Society Inductees

In a commemorative ceremony, six Career-Tech students of Coahoma Community College recently became members of the National Technical Honor Society. Dressed in black and white, they received their certificates from their instructors after Clark adorned them with NTHS pins.

Tolernisa Smith-Butler, a Career Technical Education counselor at CCC, interactively addressed the inductees, tossing them blocks of key alphabets and terms serving as subtopics in her presentation.

Miracles can come out of mistakes, she reminded.

When she darted the block with the letter 'f' to one of the honorees, Butler said, "Sometimes we're fearful. We're afraid to take the initiative to become better, do better, want more."

"Conquer fear with faith," she encouraged. "Anything that the mind believes and the heart receives can be achieved, but it's through faith."

Butler embarked on her career in education as an Early Childhood instructor at Coahoma Community College. She taught for 10 years before serving in her present role as counselor. A certified trainer for the Mississippi State Department of Health's Child Care Licensure branch, she has earned her bachelor's, master's and specialist degree from Delta State University. Butler currently anticipates the release of her first book-"Through the Eyes of a Child: From Tragedy to Triumph."
