Tuskegee University Celebrates 141st Anniversary with Annual Giving Initiative

Tuskegee University will offer individuals an opportunity to celebrate its 141st founding date with the 1881 Challenge, the university's annual giving campaign.

The University will launch the 81-hour online fundraising event beginning on July 1 at 3 p.m. CST culminating on the university's founding date, July 4 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Tuskegee's goal for the giving day is to obtain gifts from 1,881 donors including alumni, university supporters, faculty and staff to help raise funds that directly benefit students.

"The 1881 Challenge is a great opportunity for the Tuskegee community to come together to celebrate the university's founding date while also creating a meaningful impact for our students," said Phillip Howard, vice president of the Office of Advancement and Development. "We look forward to a record-breaking giving day to provide additional scholarships and enhance the student experience."

The giving day highlights five university funds that provide scholarship support and enhance the student experience, including:

  • The Golden Tiger Fund: Provides immediate funds to the university's greatest needs.
  • Athletics Fund: Donations to the Department of Athletics empowers student-athletes and support the university's championship-winning programs.
  • The General Scholarship Fund: Helps to provide scholarship support to as many deserving students as possible.
  • Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund: Provides additional scholarship support to student-athletes.
  • Tuskegee University Band Alumni Association Fund: Helps offset financial restraints and ensure that all musicians are provided the instruments needed for performances.
