SC State to Celebrate Week of the Young Child
In an effort to raise public awareness of the needs of young children and their families and to recognize early childhood programs that meet those needs, SC State University's Department of Education will celebrate its 15th annual Week of the Young Child on Monday, April 13 at Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Stadium from 10 a.m. to 12:30 pm.

The event is being held in observance of the National Association for the Education of Young Children's (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child, which will be recognized April 12-18. This year's theme is Celebrating Our Youngest Learners.
The event, co-sponsored by the South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children, will entertain approximately1,000 children from Head Starts and child care programs in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Allendale and Bamberg counties. The scheduled activities include storytelling, face painting and music and movement.
While NAEYC designates the dates and theme of the Week of the Young Child, the events are planned and implemented by local communities. Celebrations are organized and coordinated by regional, state and local NAEYC affiliates, and by individual early childhood programs and community organizations providing services to young children and families.
For more information, call Dr. M. Evelyn Fields, professor and chair of the Department of Education, at (803) 536 - 7098 or Dr. Reginald Williams, assistant professor of Early Childhood Education, at (803) 536-7098.
