Subject: [BCALA] Reference Services Coordinator, Wake Forest University

Oversees the daily operations of the main Reference Desk. This includes hiring, training and supervising student assistants, providing research and other assistance to patrons, monitoring and managing virtual reference system and managing reference, microtext and government documents collections. Hours for this position will be Sunday - Thursday 12:30pm - 9pm during the academic year and 8:30am - 5pm during intersessions and summer.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs student assistant programs including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating team of 20-25 student reference desk assistants.
  • Serves as Federal Depository Library coordinator ensuring our policies and procedures remain in accordance with the Federal Depository Library Programs guidelines and policies.
  • Provides reference service, problem resolution and troubleshooting for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Serves as evening and weekend services supervisor for reference department.
  • Advises director on resources and services necessary to meet the needs of Wake Forest students, faculty and staff.
  • Administers reference department's online systems, including LibGuides, LibAnswers, PRS request system and knowledge base.
  • Analyzes reference transaction data in order to make recommendations on student training, resources, policies and library services.
  • Coordinates reference desk schedules.
  • Serves as main point of contact for library tours and requests for instruction from external groups and summer conferences.
  • Manages the Reference, Microtext and Government Documents collections.
  • Assists director in administrative duties involved with instruction program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in a liberal arts discipline and at least two years of experience in public services in an academic library setting.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

  • Strong commitment to customer service and user satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide reference assistance both in person and virtually.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research and reference materials in traditional and electronic formats.
  • Initiative, energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to supporting the academic and research needs of students and faculty in a liberal arts university.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; strong interpersonal skills and public service attitude.  Ability to work effectively in a team environment; ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff of the University.
  • Strong critical analysis skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills in Windows based environment, Microsoft Office and Internet applications.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within a team environment and across all library departments.
  • Ability to learn new software applications and adapt to changing technologies quickly.
