Exhibit highlighting Elizabeth City State University’s perseverance and history debuts in May

By Rhiana Srebro/Museum of the Albemarle
Set for public debut on Saturday, May the 7th, the Museum of the Albemarle opens its gallery doors to introduce “Elizabeth City State University: A Legacy of Excellence and Resilience.” Currently in production stages, the exhibit will honor and highlight the life and legacy of ECSU, from its origins as a State Normal School to a pillar of the UNC System and one of the top ranked HBCU’s Colleges. Learn about Hugh Cale and his groundbreaking story of struggle and triumph while changing the course of history. See the infamous Peter W. Moore, the first principal of the school. Travel both the high roads and the low roads as the University and its students endured, embraced and made history through the years. Honor the marches for freedom and equal rights through the decades of segregation. See the paths Alumni walked to pave the route for future generations. The exhibit pays homage to the roots and fruition of over a century of history. Join us on May 7th as we unveil “Elizabeth City State University: A Legacy of Excellence and Resilience.”
