Adapting a Summer Internship during COVID-19
Wednesday, August 26th | 2:00pm ET

Rachel Bissonnette, CCAHA conservation intern and rising second-year Library and Archives Conservation Education (LACE) Fellow from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC), will share lessons learned from her recent experience at the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts in the midst of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Graduate students in WUDPAC are required to complete summer work projects at the end of their first academic year, but for Rachel and her classmates, this summer looked very different. In this webinar, Rachel will discuss the projects she undertook at CCAHA under the supervision of Senior Book Conservator Richard Homer and at home. She will reflect on how these projects contribute to her continuing education in conservation during Covid-19 and speak to what she thinks this pandemic means for her career and others starting in the field of cultural heritage preservation.

Light Levels for Exhibition
Monday, September 14th | 2:00pm ET

Understanding light, the damage it causes, and human visual perception allows collection care staff to make informed decisions. Join CCAHA Senior Paper Conservator Heather Hendry for a free webinar explaining basic principles of managing light exposure.

Intended for collection managers, registrars, and curators, this session will address measuring and monitoring visible and UV light, current standards for light exposure during exhibition, and successful strategies to avoid unnecessary exposure. The relative light sensitivity of various art and archival material will be discussed. Case studies will demonstrate how small and large institutions control light on collections during exhibition and storage.

About the Presenter:
As Senior Paper Conservator, Heather Hendry meets with clients, assesses condition and treatment needs, documents findings in reports, and treats a wide range of objects, from parchment to printed materials. Heather is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC). She also worked as a paper conservator at the Canadian Conservation Institute, the Yale Center for British Art, and Harvard University Libraries’ Weissman Preservation Center. She completed conservation internships at the Canadian Centre for Architecture and the National Gallery of Canada. Heather received a MA in Art Conservation, specializing in Paper Conservation, from Queen’s University in Canada. She received her BFA from the University of Lethbridge in Canada.
