by Jeff Wood
The Celebration of Women in Mathematics was held on October 16, 2012 at Elizabeth City State University. This event is sponsored by the Center for the Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS) and the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER). Dr. Linda Hayden is the director of the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research. This year, the Celebration of Women in Mathematics received support from Goddard Space Flight Center and Langley Research Center of The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) along with The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The Celebration of Women in Mathematics consists of a program of workshops, talks, and math competitions for middle/high school girls and their teachers. The purpose of the program is to encourage young women to continue their study of mathematics and to raise the level of mathematics competency in Northeastern North Carolina. ECSU welcomed 350 students from the following schools to attend the event:

Team members included Olivia Djoboulian, Robyn Brown, Rachel Yuan, Megan Griffin and Caroline Robinson.
