Prairie View A&M University, a leading Historically Black College/University in the field of health education, has announced the establishment of a new School of Public and Allied Health. The school, which will open its doors Sept. 1, will house growing programs in the Department of Health and Kinesiology and the University's new degrees in Public Health.

"We are thrilled to announce the establishment of the School of Public and Allied Health," said Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs James M. Palmer. "This is a significant step in our mission to provide cutting-edge health education and research opportunities to our students and faculty."

PVAMU's Department of Health and Kinesiology has experienced significant growth in recent years, supporting approximately 900 majors in kinesiology, health and physical education of the University's more than 9,000 students. With the establishment of the new School, PVAMU will increase its visibility, establish new health-related partnerships, and support research in critical mission-driven areas.

"The School will identify and attract highly qualified faculty and students from diverse perspectives, cultures, ethnicities, and socioeconomic and geographic backgrounds with a specific interest in improving the health of our communities," Palmer added.
