Kentucky State University and Deloitte continue successful mentorship program
Kentucky State University and Deloitte continued a successful virtual mentorship program through the 2020-21 academic year.
In March 2020, the program began and 10 students registered to participate. In the spring of 2021, 15 students were selected for the program and Deloitte expanded the program to include soft skills development workshops.
As part of the program, students are paired with Deloitte practitioners with the aim of preparing students as they transition from school to full-time employment. Due to the pandemic, the program has been virtual and served as a way for students to learn about working and meeting remotely.
Topics discussed throughout the program included resume development, interview advice, professionalism, workplace etiquette and meeting facilitation skills. The program concluded in May but students were encouraged to remain in touch with mentors.
Christopher Ward, a spring 2021 graduate and program participant, was able to secure full-time employment with Deloitte.
"I often say to students they need to seek opportunities for development beyond the walls of our campus," Daryl Love, associate vice president of career services and professional development, said. "As our society becomes more complex, it's imperative that students connect and build relationships with individuals that can greatly enhance their chances for long-term success."
