Kentucky State University Women’s History Month Assembly speaker brought a message of worthiness
With a nod to the women throughout history at Kentucky State University, the Women’s History Month Assembly honored all women and weaved a message of worthiness.
“Ladies, give yourselves a round of applause,” Kentucky State University Acting President Clara Ross Stamps said. “I salute you for your resilience, your patience, and your efforts. Know that you deserve to stand up and be honored for all of your superpowers, each and every one of them. Always remember that empowered women empower women.”
T’Ebony Torain, director of Upward Bound, provided the summons to assembly.
“Today we call forth the women of KSU to rise,” Torain said. “We thank you for her, KSU, and all that she’s blessed us to be, do and become. We will lift her up with our mouths and bless her rather than curse her. We celebrate you, KSU. We take this time to celebrate the women of KSU.”
Te’Asia A. Martin, founder of The Passionate Powerhouse, provided the assembly address. Martin spoke about her journey of trying to fit in and becoming her own advocate.
“You are handcrafted, elegance in a shell,” Martin said. Your place in this room, at this event, at this institution, in this state, is not by chance. While you are here, the contributions that are deep within you have been beckoning and calling you to emerge. Calling you to come out. Calling you to come forth.”
Lisa Lang, general counsel at Kentucky State, presented the 2022 Women of Distinction awards. The 2022 Women of Distinction award winners are Dr. Mary Barr, Tava Clay, Atty. Shuo Han, Krystal Jackson and Monikha Moore.
Dr. Lori Hicks, associate professor of music, and Sandra G. “Cissy” Williams, class of 1981, provided musical selections.
