Library Publishing Curriculum
Spring 2019 Pilot Workshops

The Educopia Institute and the Library Publishing Coalition are pleased to announce the last series of pilot workshops for the IMLS-funded Developing A Curriculum to Advance Library-Based Publishinghttps://librarypublishing.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=299460903c5acd28e01011bfe&id=47845660ed&e=fe3a5a4940 project, taking place in winter/spring of 2019.

Registration Open: Content Virtual Workshop

Based on their very successful in-person event at the 2018 Library Publishing Forum, Joshua Neds-Fox (Wayne State University) and Charlotte Roh (University of San Francisco) will lead a four-week, synchronous virtual workshop. The workshop will be based on the Content Modulehttps://librarypublishing.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=299460903c5acd28e01011bfe&id=5b5ab6c9ca&e=fe3a5a4940 of the Library Publishing Curriculum, which covers how library publishers attract, select, edit, manage, and disseminate content. Attendees will learn how to recruit partners and select content for their program, and how to incorporate diverse voices into each part of the publication process. The workshop will also share information on common production workflows, identifying the resources and staff skills needed to support various editorial strategies and content types.

Participants are expected to attend all four sessions. The workshop will use Zoom web conferencing software and will require an internet connection, plus audio and video streaming capabilities. Registration is capped at 30, and previous virtual workshops have filled up quickly. There is no registration fee.

Dates: January 17, 24, and 31, and February 7, 1:00-2:30pm EST

To register: Sign up via the registration pagehttps://librarypublishing.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=299460903c5acd28e01011bfe&id=264a3c2e12&e=fe3a5a4940 by November 30

Save-the-Date: Policy Workshops

After a great run of in-person and synchronous virtual workshops, we are excited to announce a slightly different format for the workshops based on the Policy Modulehttps://librarypublishing.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=299460903c5acd28e01011bfe&id=b0dd2c8063&e=fe3a5a4940 - an asynchronous virtual workshop and a “Policy Lab” at the 2019 Library Publishing Forum! Both workshops will be taught by Library Publishing Curriculum project leads Melanie Schlosser (Library Publishing Coalition Community Facilitator) and Katherine Skinner (Executive Director, Educopia Institute). Save the date for these events and look for registration announcements as they get closer!

Asynchronous Virtual Workshop: Library Publishing Policy
In March, we will hold a completely asynchronous, 4-week virtual workshop based on the four units of the Policy Module. Each week, participants will watch a recorded lecture, explore a reading or other related resource, and participate in a discussion on Slack. The virtual workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to explore topics in depth and to build a foundation for policy development at their institution.

In-Person Workshop: Policy Lab at the Library Publishing Forum
On May 7 (the day before the 2019 Library Publishing Forum), library publishers will have the opportunity to participate in a “Policy Lab” workshop. The day will be focused on discussion and hands-on activities, and each participant will leave with two draft policies for their library publishing program, related to copyright, legal agreements, diversity, or preservation. To help participants get the most out of the lab, they will be given access to the recorded lectures from the virtual workshop ahead of time. The workshop will be held at Simon Fraser University’s Harbour Centre campus in Vancouver, BC.

About the Series
These two workshops are designed as a series, and participants are encouraged to take both if they are able. To help them get the most out of the day, Policy Lab attendees who are unable to participate in the virtual workshop in March will be given access to the recorded lectures before the in-person workshop.
