South Carolina State University received two big donations Friday.
The first from Congressman Jim Clyburn and his wife Emily, who established their "Emily England Clyburn Honors Scholarship Program" with a check for $70,000 to kick off the program.
SCANA and SCE&G also presented a check to the university for $100,000 that will be used for promoting the school next year.
Both graduates of the University, Clyburn and his wife have supported their Alma mater for years, especially through their archives and history endowment.
Clyburn said he hopes this investment into the education of future students will help those in need.
