Good afternoon:

Well, I am officially now the "past chair."  A position of which I am almost as proud of as I was of being the Chair of the HBCU Library Alliance.  It has been a real pleasure, with some difficulties, to have contributed to our growth in mission and program over the last several years.  I will continue to serve on the board for one more year in the past chair position.  But as I have said many times, I will always be near and available for the important work for which the Alliance will surely continue.  In an earlier meeting this year, the Board also established a "Founding Committee" that will offer the initial steering committee an invitation, from time to time, to attend future board meetings.  This Founding Committee will also take on a special project that will contribute mightily to the work of the Alliance.

Members of the Founding Committee include Emma Perry/Southern University Baton Rouge, Elsie Stephens Weatherington/Virginia State University, Janice Franklin/Alabama State University, Tommy Holton/Dillard University , and yours truly.

I want to offer the most sincere congratulations to the new Board members and to the new officers that were elected yesterday by the Board at its first meeting of the new year.

Warm welcome to new board members: Blanche Sanders/Alcorn State University, LaVerne McLaughlin/Albany State University, Jean Greene/Hinds Community College and Joan Williams/Bennett College.

Congratulations to our new Officers:  Chair-Mary Jo Fayoyin/Savannah State University; Vice Chair-Cynthia Henderson/Howard University; Treasurer-Sheila Stuckey/Kentucky State University; Secretary-LaVerne McLaughlin/Albany State University.

I am encouraged and hope that you are as well.  The best thing that you and I can do, is to fully support our organization and the Board, and advocate and engage in a serious way in the mission and activities of the HBCU Library Alliance.  Please join me in congratulating them all!

Good afternoon:  I tripled check our records to be sure that we had not overlooked Yildiz or any other.  I am able to confirm that the Founding Committee refers to the group that came before the organization was formally established and a board elected.    A copy of the release documenting the Steering Committee is attached.

Please follow this link http://www.hbculibraries.org/html/news-solinet.html for the 2003 Planning Grant press release that identifies the steering committee members.

I feel confident that the Founding Committee will reach out to some of the earlier officers to assist with any project that is to be developed.

Thank you, have a great weekend.
