Children of the Martin Dixon Intergenerational Center at Bennett College will "Grow Up Great" with Grant Support from PNC Bank Initiative
Bennett College's Pre-K facility, the Martin Dixon Intergenerational Center (MDIC), recently gained support from Grow Up Great, an initiative of PNC Bank that enhances school preparation in one of the following key areas: math, science, the arts and financial education for young children.
"By focusing our support in these critical areas, we hope to achieve greater results in school readiness, which will yield stronger, smarter and healthier children, families and communities," said a spokesperson on behalf of the organization.
Besides offering financial support, the program also provides volunteers to aid in learning implementations. Since its inception, Grow Up Great has benefited more than 1,500,000 at-risk preschool children from across the nation. The staff of the Martin Dixon Intergenerational Center and Bennett College couldn't be happier to be among the supported institutions.
"We are extremely excited to be recognized as a PNC Center under the Grow Up Great Program. The volunteers will definitely enhance the excellent experiences provided at the Martin Dixon Intergenerational Center," said Dr. Millicent Rainey, provost of Bennett College.
According to Bernetta Harper, assistant director of the MDIC, the center is currently looking into guest speakers and workshops in the area of financial literacy.
PNC and the PNC Foundation have long histories of strengthening and enriching the lives of communities in which they operate. For decades, they have provided resources to seed ideas, foster development initiatives and encourage leadership in nonprofit organizations where imagination and determination are at work enhancing people's lives everyday.
To build on this commitment, PNC developed Grow Up Great, a 10-year, $100 million investment to help improve the school readiness of millions of children from birth to age five. As part of this initiative, the PNC Foundation has earmarked funds for grants to nonprofit organizations which work to directly improve children's school readiness.
