Happening on the 'Hill' - FAMU Alumni Create Travel Fund for Architecture Students to Gain Experience Abroad

FAMU Alum Makes History as First African-American Leader of SAF

The Society of American Foresters (SAF) has hired longtime SAF member, forestry advocate, and FAMU alum Terry Baker to be the first African American to lead the 118-year-old organization as CEO. Baker most recently served as the deputy forest supervisor of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland in Fort Collins, Colorado.

"We are excited to have someone with Terry Baker's breadth of experience in leading large organizations, as well as his intimate knowledge and expertise in forestry and the larger community of natural resource management," said SAF President David S. Lewis. "Terry has a reputation for being a leader who values relationships, a leader who listens, and a leader who takes action."

FAMU Alumni Create Travel Fund for Architecture Students to Gain Experience Abroad

In honor of long-time FAMU Professor Eduardo "Lalo" Robles' continuing service for nearly three decades in the School of Architecture and Engineering Technology (SAET), alumni of the school announced a travel fund in his name.

Their goal is to create an endowment, which will help students participate in study abroad programs. Lalo strongly believes in the educational value of study abroad and the alumni group united to acknowledge his invaluable and important contributions in this area.

"Lalo" has taught a broad range of classes from foundation design studios to graduate level courses. His passion for architecture, urban design, and study abroad programs has made a significant contribution to FAMU and its students.

FAMU Students Partner with FSU and UNF Students to Promote Transportation Safety for Aging Populations

The University Transportation Center (UTC) and Center for Accessibility and Safety for an Aging Population (ASAP) will host the fifth  Annual Transportation Day on Friday, November 30, 2018.  The centers are operated as a research consortium between FAMU, FSU and UNF.

The event will include presentations, a keynote luncheon, booths and demonstrations. Among the activities is CarFit. CarFit is an interactive and educational program that enforces the importance of vehicle safety. This program teaches participants how to make their personal vehicle "fit" them to increase vehicle safety and mobility.

The event will be held at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. To RSVP, email utc@fsu.edumailto:utc@fsu.edu.
