Ronald Carter to Step Down as Johnson C. Smith President in 2017
Dr. Ronald L. Carter, president of Johnson C. Smith University since 2008, announced his intention to step aside as leader of the historically Black institution in June 2017.
Carter, in a letter sent to JCSU stakeholders on Monday, indicated that the university had completed the goals of the 2008-2017 Strategic Plan implemented when he took over and that it would be time for someone to begin a new era of growth for the Charlotte, N.C., school.
"As we begin this 2016-2017 academic year, the University's sesquicentennial anniversary, I can say with confidence that the University's radical transformation is now a thriving reality," said Carter, the university's 13th president and who has more than 30 year's experience in higher education administration.
With Carter at the helm, JCSU experienced a period of massive capital improvements, growth of scholarship programs and enhancement of its national profile.
