Subject: AUC Woodruff Library Event Announcement: Seeking to Tell a Story Exhibition Program, Keynote Speaker Dr. Joy DeGruy

Dr. Joy DeGruy, author of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome:  American's Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing, will be the keynote speaker at the AUC Woodruff Library on Thursday, October 16, 2014, 4:00-6:00 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

Through the lens of history, Dr. DeGruy explores the impact centuries of slavery and oppression on African-Americans and how the past has influenced the present. Delivering an empowering message, she opens up the discussion of how the African-American community can use the strengths it has gained to heal.  The presentation will be followed by a Q&A and response panel with Dr. Makunga Akinyela (Georgia State University), Christy Garrison-Harrison, MA (Clark Atlanta University), and Dr. Clarissa Myrick-Harris (Morehouse College).

To learn more about Dr. DeGruy and her work, visit http://joydegruy.com. This is the second year of programming for the five-year project "Seeking to Tell a Story: Political Action from Slavery to Civil Rights." The virtual exhibition, including materials from the Atlanta Student Movement Collection, is available for viewing at http://digitalexhibits.auctr.edu.
