White House Correspondent Opens Rock the Lyceum

Award-winning journalist and veteran White House correspondent April Ryan will share her experience as a White House correspondent at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, in B.N. Duke Auditorium on the campus of North Carolina Central Universityhttp://www.nccu.edu/index.cfm. Her appearance will kick off the 2018-19 Rock the Lyceum Lecture Series.

Ryan is a longtime reporter and bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks, covering urban issues from the White House. The Baltimore native has served in this role for over 20 years and is the only African-American woman to hold the position since the Clinton administration. Ryan, who began her career as a news director at a number of radio stations, frequently appears on CNN as a political analyst.

Ryan is the author of three books, including "The Presidency in Black and White," and "At Mama's Knee: Mothers and Race in Black and White." Her latest book, "Under Fire: Reporting from the Front Lines of the Trump White House," depicts her experience as a reporter during the Trump administration, examines policy debates and personnel appointments, and gives readers a glimpse into the life of a White House correspondent.

Following her lecture, Ryan will greet audience members in the atrium of the B.N. Duke Auditorium.

The Rock the Lyceum Lecture Series, hosted by NCCU's Office of Student Engagement and Leadership and the Lyceum Committee, will continue through the 2018-19 academic year. Other speakers include:
?  Oct. 10 - Michael Vick, former NFL player and Fox Sports analyst.
?  Nov. 14 - Clifford "T.I." Harris, award-winning hip-hop artist, actor and producer.
?  Jan. 16 - Roland Martin, CNN contributor and senior analyst for the "Tom Joyner Morning Show."
?  Feb. 20 - Amara La Negra, Latin-American singer and cast member of VH1's "Love and Hip Hop Miami."

These events are free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
