Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Today I'm celebrating  Ida B. Wells, who completed her studies at Rust College and  became a teacher in Memphis, Tennessee in 1888. While living in Memphis, she became an editor and co-owner of a local Black newspaper called "The Free Speech and Headlight." She wrote her editorials under the pen-name "Iola."  1909, she became a member of the Committee of 40, which established the groundwork for the NAACP, the country's oldest civil rights organization. Wells continued her  tireless crusade for equal rights for African Americans until she joined the ancestors in 1931.

5TH BIENNIAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Thanks so much to the fifty-two institutions and seventy-seven members who are registered for the October 21-23 Membership Meeting in New Orleans, LA. The meeting's theme is "Protecting Our Legacy, Preserving Our Story: A Decade of Investment in HBCU Libraries."

My goal for this historic meeting is 100% participation.  It's essential that each member is represented as we consider future directions, discuss sustainability options and celebrate our first decade of service to HBCU libraries.

I've heard from several members who will register this month.  Please register as soon as possible so that we can process billing and provide accurate counts to the hotel.

Fundraising Dinner

Thanks to the fifty-seven individuals who will join us for the Monday, October 22nd Fundraising Dinner!  I'm EXCITED that so many responded to our first fundraising endeavor. I look forward to dining with you in New Orleans.

Decade of Investment Financial Challenge

All are invited to participate in the $100.00 financial challenge celebrating the HBCU Library Alliance's first ten years of progressive service to member libraries. The goal of the challenge is to achieve 100% participation and I need you to join us and encourage your colleagues to make this commitment.  To-date, ten members are participating in the challenge. Decade of Investment supporters will be listed in the program booklet and personally acknowledged at the October Membership Meeting.

We're laying out the program booklet and will allow as much space as needed to list all Decade of Investment supporters.  Paste this link in your address bar http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HWWGTR6 and input your name as it will appear in the program booklet.

Please mail your commitment check to my attention, no later than September 1st,  at this address:
