Alcorn's coordinator of Admissions' Recruitment and Outreach presents at MACRAO conference

Coordinator of Admissions, Recruitment and Outreach at Alcorn Justin Mathis '11 presented at the 2014 Mississippi Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (MACRAO) conference themed "Making the Most of Every Day" April 6-8, at the Natchez Convention Center in Natchez, Mississippi. Mathis was invited by the president of MACRAO Jason McCormick to speak on customer service at colleges and universities.

"My focus was on how institutions of higher learning can wow prospects and retain students once enrolled," shared Mathis. "It is important to make the student feel like your campus will be their 'home away from home', to make them your top priority every day, and provide a cohesive learning environment. At Alcorn, we are committed to providing excellent customer service."

Mathis has been employed at Alcorn since 2012. He serves as the advisor for the COGIC Club, Student Ambassadors, NAACP and GQ Modeling Squad. Mathis is the vice president of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Iota Sigma chapter. He also serves as the assistant to the youth auxiliary group Sigma Beta.

"I love my job and I really love my alma mater," added Justin. "It is my goal every day to ensure that each potential student that steps on this campus has an unforgettable experience, one that will make them say, 'Alcorn is where I need to be'."

The purpose of MACRAO is to contribute to the advancement of higher education in its fullest and broadest implications and to advance professionally the office or offices of Admissions Counseling, Admissions, Registration and Records in Mississippi institutions of postsecondary education.

Mathis was the only speaker from a HBCU to present at the Conference.
