ASU Cancer Research Expert Receives National Award
The director of ASU's Cancer Biology Research Center, Dr. Manoj Mishra, will be presented with the award, which provides a $1,500 monetary acknowledgment, at the AACR's annual meeting on April 18, in Philadelphia, Penn.
Alabama State's Cancer Biology Research Center investigates the role of diet and immune cells in cancer progression and clearance, Mishra said.
"It is satisfying to get recognition for the kind of work we do on ASU's campus," Mishra said. "This recognition brings ASU and its newly established Cancer Biology Research and Training program to the national and global map in cancer research."

Mishra's laboratory at ASU conducts research on prostate cancer and has been awarded millions of dollars in federal grants for cancer research within the last few years.
"Our long-term objectives and research goals are to reduce health disparities in cancer and to elucidate the molecular mechanism involved during prostate cancer progression and clearance," Mishra said.
The AACR Minority-Serving Institution award aims to foster continuous growth in the scientific knowledge and skills of its members and their students within minority-serving institutions.
