Alabama A&M to again host White House Initiative conference
HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Alabama A&M has again been selected to host a three-day conference in connection with the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the school announced today.
A national Technical Assistance Conference will be held at A&M April 25-27, 2011.
The school hosted a similar conference in April and the expectation was that the conference would return to A&M.
Dr. John S. Wilson Jr., who lauded A&M President Andrew Hugine at last year's conference, credited Hugine with the conference returning to A&M.
"We are eager to return to Alabama A&M University in 2011, since we had such a wonderful and mutually beneficial engagement last year," Dr. John S. Wilson Jr., executive director of the White House Initiative on HBCUs, said in the A&M announcement. "Dr. (Andrew) Hugine's sound leadership and his gracious cooperation made an 'encore' the right decision for all partners and participants."
The conference targets HBCU leadership in the areas of sponsored research, institutional advancement, athletic departments, career planning and placement offices, Title III programs, and all others responsible for acquiring federal government funding.
The previous conference in spring 2010 attracted some 300 such representatives in an effort coordinated by AAMU's Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Sponsored Programs.

Can we get a spot for the libraries at the conference? This would be a
wonderful venue for the alliance to promote the leadership institute and
digital initiative.

Good idea. We should also have an exhibit if this is possible.
