Florida A&M President Will Step Down After Rocky Tenure

The president of Florida A&M University, Elmira Mangum,http://www.chronicle.com/blogs/ticker/students-accuse-florida-am-president-of-tampering-with-campus-election/109638 will step down six months ahead of the end of her contract, The Florida Times-Union reports.http://jacksonville.com/news/florida/2016-09-15/story/famu-president-elmira-mangum-steps-down-six-months-remaining-contract

The institution's Board of Trustees voted 10 to 1 to approve the separation agreement that allows Ms. Mangum to receive her salary for the duration of her contract, which ends on March 31, but to step down immediately.

"I believe it is clear that there is no way forward," Ms. Mangum said, according to the newspaper.

Ms. Mangum received below-average marks on her second annual review and has had a contentious relationshiphttp://www.chronicle.com/blogs/ticker/florida-ams-board-chairman-resigns-after-failed-attempt-to-oust-president/106014 with some of the trustees. She will receive reimbursement for her legal fees and moving expenses, the newspaper said.

This will make the third time in 10 years that the institution has had to seek a new president.
