VIVIAN BROWN-CARMAN
BROWN-CARMAN VIVIAN O. BROWN-CARMAN, a resident of Jacksonville, Florida died August 11, 2011. A devout Christian, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Mandarin, Dr. Gary L. Williams, Sr., Pastor. Born March 28, 1936, she was the only child of Vivian Taylor and Powell Woodson. Ms. Brown-Carman attended the public schools of North Carolina and graduated from Nash County High School. She furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from North Carolina College at Durham in 1958 and a Master of Library Service Degree from Rutgers University in 1964. In addition, she completed course work toward a Doctor of Education Degree at Teachers College Columbia University.

We remember Ms. Vivian Brown-Carman, the Director of the EWC Library, as a vivacious, dignified, elegant lady one who was always adorned with her lovely hats. She served diligently as a member of the Academic Affairs Administrative (AAA) Team, participating on numerous committees and projects and managed the AAA Sunshine Fund. Prior to joining the EWC family in 2006, Ms. Brown-Carman served as Associate Professor of English and Library Media Specialist for thirty years at Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey. She had over 40 years of progressive experience in Library Services. She was also a member of the New York Library Association and an active member of the American Library Association at the time of her demise.

Moreover, she was the national recording secretary and board member of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses. Ms. Brown-Carman was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. On August 11, 2011, an Angel appeared, sealed the lips of our beloved Sister Vivian Brown-Carman, and escorted her before the throne of God. She leaves to cherish her precious and loving memory: a devoted and loving former husband, Kenneth Brown of Monchs Corner, South Carolina; two children, a daughter, Elder Charlotte Stormy Brown-Adkins, and her husband, Rev. Kenneth, of St. Simons Island, GA., and a son, Kevin Anthony Brown his wife, Gloria and their three children, Carrington Brown, Miles Brown, and Gianna Alexis Huballah; two uncles, two aunts, other relatives, friends, The National Convention of Gospel Choir and Choruses and the Edward Waters College Family. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 20th at 1 p.m. at her church, 3990 Loretto Road. The late Vivian Brown-Carman will rest in the mortuary for visitation of friends this evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and in the church on tomorrow from noon to the hour of service. Interment will be in Jacksonville Memory Gardens by the NORTHSIDE CHAPEL of MARION GRAHAM MORTUARIES, 1504 Gandy Street. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.comhttp://Jacksonville.com
