Johnson's Statement on the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Death Dr. King's public funeral service in the Atlanta University Center on the portico of Harkness Hall at Atlanta University, now Clark Atlanta University. "Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. " --Martin Luther King Jr. These words of Martin Luther King Jr. live on at Clark Atlanta University, where one of our enduring mottos is "Culture for Service." The CAU family joins the world in honoring King's service and sacrifice on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his assassination. As we commemorate his global legacy during this poignant occasion, we contemplate not on what was taken from us, but what was left to us and for us to do. King left us with wisdom that transcends time and space. He left us a heeding about eliminating the triple evils of poverty, racism, and militarism that is just as relevant today as it was a half century ago. He left us with a blueprint for peaceful, society-molding protest that is still being modeled today. And he left us with an idea that matters - what he called his dream of equality and justice so that we can live as brothers and sisters in a global World House. What he left for us to do is to dedicate ourselves to making a positive lasting difference in the lives of others. In this way, we will continue to make King's dream a reality.
