Florida A&M University News November 18, 2020 FAMU NAA Chapters Raise More Than $91,000 For Students Thanks to matching funds, $136,500 in scholarships will be available for students Florida A&M University National Alumni Association (FAMU NAA) celebrated its chapters during a FAMU Founders' Day Spotlight Recognition program on Saturday, October 24, 2020. Many of the alumni association's 78 chapters, including affinity groups, celebrated Florida A&M University's Founders' Day by raising funds to assist students who reside in their local areas with financial needs associated with attending the University. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fundraising opportunities were limited; but each participating chapter managed to exceed expectations with virtual activities and sponsorships to obtain funds. All funds raised by each chapter will be matched 50 percent by the FAMU NAA to further enhance giving power of the chapters to grant scholarship funds to students from their respective areas. The FAMU NAA Fundraising Committee works year-round to market and strategize events that will benefit our students and support FAMU and the FAMU National Alumni Association. "We are excited about the outcome of the chapters' efforts to assist our students, even in the midst of a pandemic," stated FAMU NAA 3rd Vice President and Fundraising Chair Mary Smith. "These valued funds help to lessen the impact of financial needs of the student, which in turn gives them more time to focus on their studies." FAMU NAA 18th President Col. Gregory L. Clark said, "These awards and scholarships are designed to help decrease the number and amount of loans students need to take to finish the crossing line and obtain their college degree." This year, the chapters raised more than $91,000 to assist students. The FAMU NAA will match each chapter's contribution with $0.50 for each $1 raised. The matching funds will amount to $45,500. The grand total of scholarships funds that will be awarded to current FAMU students from this effort is $136,500. Congratulations to our chapters for their continued efforts to Saving Our Students.
