Panelists to Discuss Jobs in TV, Radio, Public Relations, Marketing, Print at Cheyney University

The entire campus community is invited to Marcus Foster Student Center Tuesday, March 25, to hear a former 6ABC TV reporter, a current television producer and a newspaper advertising executive talk about their careers and the opportunities available in the communications and public relations fields.

The professional development event, which starts promptly at 6:00 pm in the second floor auditorium (Room 211), is sponsored by the Keystone Honors Academy.

Award-winning television personality Lauren Wilson, spokesperson for the Colonial School District in Delaware, will serve on the panel. Wilson spent 24 years as an Action News television report for Philadelphia's leading station, WPVI. She has also worked for other stations as a weathercaster, substitute anchor and as a radio reporter. Wilson is Vice President of a multi-media production company and is a freelance writer for a magazine. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., the National Coalition of 100 Black Women; a member of Jack & Jill of America, Inc., and a board member of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League.
Andrea Gibbs, an EMMY award-winning broadcast producer, will join Wilson on the panel. Her career has taken her to Maryland, New York, Connecticut, and Delaware. Gibbs has produced daily news, helped create a morning magazine show, worked on TVOne's live coverage of the 2008 Presidential Election and Washington Watch with Roland Martin, and worked on various shows for numerous tv stations. She currently works as a freelance writer for Fox 29's Good Day morning newscast. Gibbs graduated from Temple University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Rounding out the panel is Advertising Director for the Daily Local New Tricia Johnston. Johnston has worked in sales and marketng for companies in Ohio and Pennsylvania. She has helped transform a dying pint business into a growing digital ad agency. Johnston has an English degree from St. Bonaventure University (NY) and an MBA from John Carroll University (OH).
According to Dr. Deidre Beadle who facilitates the KHA Professional Development Events, "each panelist will speak for 10 minutes, talk about their respective professional fields, highlight required professional credentials that it takes to work in their careers, offer specific insights on what it takes to be successful in their fields and respond to questions from students, faculty and staff."
This is the fourth of five panels highlighted by the KHA. The last one will take place April 15 at 6:00 pm in Marcus Foster 211 and will feature Business, HRTM and Public Administration professionals. Snacks are provided.
