Prairie View A&M University News April 2019 PVAMU TO HOST INAUGURAL RESEARCH WEEK Prairie View A&M University will host its first ever Research Week on April 10-12. Initiated by the Office of Research, Innovation, and Sponsored Programs, in partnership with the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center (under the College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology), the event will feature research work done by faculty members, scientists, and undergraduate and graduate students of PVAMU. "On April 10, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, faculty and scientists are invited out to the new PVAMU Welcome Center where they can contribute up to five research presentations. We want to recognize and celebrate their research, innovative, and creative accomplishments," said Ali Fares, Interim Vice President for Research. The next day, undergraduate and graduate students of all majors will gather at the Student Recreational Center to showcase their research projects through poster and oral presentations. This marks the 14th year of the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center organizing this student research symposium. "Not only is this a great opportunity for students present their research, but they also get to practice public speaking in preparation for future conferences, as well as interviews," said Susan Frazier-Kouassi, Director of the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center. "Furthermore, they get a chance to network with other students and faculty, both in their discipline and others and grow as emerging professionals in their fields of study." Research Week ends on April 12 with an award ceremony from 2-4 p.m. in the College of Juvenile Justice & Psychology's Don K. Clark Auditorium. "In addition to announcing student and faculty winners of outstanding poster and paper presentations, we'll also recognize three researchers at the assistant, associate, and full professor levels who have made a significant contribution to their fields of study at Prairie View A&M University," said Fares. "Through Research Week, we look forward to facilitating collaborations across disciplines and further contributing to the goal of PVAMU becoming an emerging research university," said Frazier-Kouassi.
