Student exchange part of SU agreement with college in Turkey
Southern University Chancellor James Llorens signed a joint agreement Wednesday with the top administrator of a college in Turkey that will mean a coordination of programs and student exchanges.
The memorandum of understanding, set for the next three years, with the Siirt University in Siirt, Turkey was signed in Llorens' office with Professor Dr. Murat Erman, rector of Siirt University. (The rector is equivalent to the chancellor on a U.S. college campus.) The agreement involves faculty and student exchanges, joint research activities and cultural exchanges.
There will also be an 8-month joint English Training Program for the Siirt participants. The participants will study in Siirt for four months and at SUBR for four months.
Siirt University is a school of about 8,000 students located in the city of Siirt in southeast Turkey. The city has a population of about 135,350 residents.
The new memorandum of understanding is among several signed over the past year with colleges in Turkey.
Dr. Barbara Carpenter, dean of International Students and Osman Kandara, an associate professor in computer science and university liaison for Turkey also participated in today's signing.
