ASU Issues Statement Concerning White House Travel Ban

Alabama State University has issued an advisory to students, faculty and staff regarding international travel.

Alabama State University has issued the following statement to its students, faculty and staff in regard to the current developments surrounding the recent executive order issued by the White House on January 27, restricting reentry into the United States of both immigrants and non-immigrants from seven nations in the Middle East and Africa. The impact of this order has been immediate for international educators worldwide.

The University wishes to advise those at ASU that could be directly or indirectly impacted by this White House order.

ASU STATEMENT
Until Alabama State University receives additional directives and better understands the rules and implications of the White House Travel Ban Order, members of the ASU family are strongly advised to delay and/or avoid any international travel at this time.

Please be advised that you may be denied reentry into the United States.

Alternatively, if you plan to engage in international travel under these current conditions, please inform the Alabama State University Office of the Provost and the Office of Diversity & International Affairs of your intentions immediately.

While the University is committed to ensuring the overall safety and well-being of all its students and employees, please be aware of the immediate implications and changes in travel regulations for immigrants and non-immigrant visitors. Although the reasons and the outcomes of this decision are not yet clear, all international students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to stay informed and remain vigilant in their individual understanding and scope of these travel and reentry changes as they develop.

ASU encourages international students, faculty and staff with questions about immigration, green cards and/or travel reentry to contact the University's Office of Diversity and International Affairs.

In addition, The National Association of International Educators has prepared an informational and resource website that ASU family members may access for additional information and advice about the White House order:  http://www.nafsa.org/Professional_Resources/Browse_by_Interest/International_Students_and_Scholars/Executive_Order_Travel_Ban__NAFSA_Resources
