Alabama State University News April 9, 2021 Dr. Joseph Caver to Speak at ASU’s Honors Day Convocation Alabama State University will hold its annual Honors Day Convocation on Friday April 16, 2021 at 10 a.m. virtually at www.facebook.com/asu<http://www.facebook.com/asu>. The convocation recognizes regularly admitted undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement throughout their academic pursuits. In general, students must have completed at least 15 semester hours of courses at ASU with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better to qualify for recognition. The program also honors ASU's Student of the Year. Dr. Joseph Caver, an ASU alumnus and author of “From Marion to Montgomery: The Early Years of Alabama State University, 1867-1925,” will be the guest speaker. Caver is former senior archivist at the Air Force Historical Research Agency at Maxwell Air Force Base. He also is a coauthor of The Tuskegee Airmen, An Illustrated History: 1939–1949 and a contributor to the Air Power History journal. Caver graduated from ASU in 1974 with a B.S. degree in History / Political Science. He also earned an M.A. degree in American History from ASU in 1982. Caver is a recipient of the Major General I. B. Holley Award, recognizing significant contributions in the field of Air Force history, and has been honored with ASU’s Spirit of Marion Award. Caver is currently an adjunct history instructor at ASU and is the vice president of the Montgomery Improvement Association, a former member of ASU’s National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African American Culture Steering Committee and the Friends of the Alabama Archives Board of Directors.
