Bluefield State College January 8, 2020 Collegiate Recovery Community at BSC Supports Students in Dealing with Addiction-Related Issues A recently established Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) at Bluefield State College will support students in recovery from any kind of addictive behavior, as well as those wanting to be in recovery, or those wishing to support others on their recovery journey. BSC is one of seven institutions of higher education participating in the program through a memorandum of Understanding for the Alliance for the Economic Development of Southern West Virginia's Collegiate Peer Recovery Support Network. Mike Holmes, a Peer Support Specialist on BSC's Bluefield campus (mholmes@bluefieldstate.edu, 304-800-9646, 304-327-4327, Conley Hall room 305) explained, "The Collegiate Recovery Center supports each individual's unique recovery process. The Center provides a stigma-free haven on campus where students in recovery from substance use receive the help they need to improve their health, live self-directed lives, and reach their potential." Dr. Cravor Jones, Director/BSC Counseling and Advising Center, noted, "The program's goals are to promote personal well-being, substance abuse prevention, and therapeutic intervention for people dealing with opioid addictions and/or other addictive substances. A Federal State Opioid Response grant was allocated to the Marshall University Research Corporation for the Alliance's Southern WV Collegiate Peer Recovery Network Initiative, involving seven colleges and universities, including BSC, as well as four behavioral health centers.
