WVSU Extension Service Hosting Free Agriculture Workshops
West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service will present a free series of workshops to help beginning and experienced gardeners learn a variety of agricultural growing and harvesting techniques on Wednesday, May 4, beginning at 10 a.m. on the WVSU campus in Institute.
The workshops will include sessions on topics such as small fruit production and alternative growing methods.
"We are blending traditional agricultural education like small fruit production with instruction on alternative management practices like aquaponics, which is soilless culture with fish," said Melissa Stewart, assistant program director of WVSU Extension Service. "We've seen tremendous interest in these topics throughout our service area and are excited to share them with the Kanawha Valley on our own campus."
The schedule is as follows.
10 a.m. Aquaponic Systems and Fish Selection
11 a.m. Pecan Tree Care and Maintenance
12 p.m. Growing Grapes
The workshops are free to attend and are supported by the USDA 2501 Grant Program. To register, contact Extension Agent Randy Ross at (808) 208-5099 or rross8@wvstateu.edumailto:rross8@wvstateu.edu.
Workshops will take place in the WVSU Erickson Alumni Centerhttp://www.wvstateu.edu/about-wvsu/campus-map.aspx on campus.
