Alcorn University News December 2014 Alcorn’s Golden Key chapter reaches Silver chapter standing Hard work and diligence continues to pay off at Alcorn State University. Alcorn’s Golden Key chapter has achieved a Silver chapter standing for the 2013-2014 academic year. Golden Key’s Silver standing chapters have achieved the second highest reporting standard in the honor society. Chapters receiving this honor have met the requirements by collaborating with other student organizations, participating in and/or planning service projects, implementing new member events and networking with Golden Key honorary members. Serving as Alcorn’s Golden Key chapter advisors are Dr. Margo Montgomery-Richardson, Dr. Peter Malik and Dr. Thomas Sturgis. Their dedication to promoting Golden Key’s mission of enhancing students’ ability in academics, leadership and service is what earned Alcorn the esteemed honor. “The recognition of this award is indicative of the hard work of our students,” said Sturgis. “They have exceeded the criteria set forth surrounding the involvement and accomplishments as outlined by Golden Key International Honor Society in areas of implementing and participating in service projects and other events.” Although a great achievement, Sturgis is aspiring to reach an even higher level in the honor society. “We are honored and pleased to receive the Golden Key Silver Status. However, our chapter is committed to making every effort to reach Gold Status.” Golden Key is the world’s largest honor society, with more than 2 million members at more than 400 chapters across the United States and around the world.
