Alabama Ag Credit gifts sponsor scholarships and conference
Tuskegee University's College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences received two donations totaling $15,000 from Alabama Ag Credit today.
Of the $15,000 given, $5,000 is for student scholarships and the $15,000 check is for support of this year's Professional Agricultural Worker's Conference (PAWC), which will be held at the university Dec. 7-9.
Alabama Ag Credit is a farm credit institution based in Montgomery, Ala. The gifts mark the third consecutive year of donations from the institution. At this year's presentation, the current scholarship recipients were able to meet with Alabama Ag Credit's CEO, Doug Thiessen, and personally thank him for the scholarships.
The students were selected based upon specified criteria. In order to qualify for the scholarship, students must major in a degree program in the College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, demonstrate leadership and communication skills; and must be proactive and involved in student and community activities.
The 2014 scholarship recipients are:
Taylor Nzimiro, senior, of Houston, Texas - Animal and Poultry Sciences, business option
Nyesa Gordon, junior, of Milwaukee, Wis.-Agribusiness major
Jasmine Roberts, sophomore, of Montgomery, Ala. -Agribusiness major
Aja West, senior, of Chicago, Ill. -Food and Nutritional Sciences major
