Sandra Davidson '14 Chosen to Represent the Eastern Region for the NPAC

As a result of her membership in the Bennett College Pre-Alumnae Council (PAC), Sandra Davidson, '14 was recently appointed as the organization's nationally recognized Eastern Regional Director, making her the executive officer for North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Ohio.

Davidson represents 14 of the participating colleges within her region. She voiced that one of her key roles is to aid the advancement of these PAC programs. "I'll be traveling to schools that don't have a PAC or those that are struggling to build one," she said. "Through fundraising initiatives and community involvement, I hope to give them the tools to get them ready to participate in regional and national conferences."

Attending conferences is essential in building relationships between the organizations who, in return, work collectively to raise money for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Davidson is an integral part in planning the annual gatherings since she serves as a committee member of the national conference and the elections committee as well as the chairwoman of the regional conference.

Due to funding, the NPAC had originally decided to cancel regional conferences. Davidson wrote a proposal that successfully argued otherwise. "For the past three years, all regional conferences have been canceled, so I came up with different ways that would help keep the costs low, from hotel rates to travel arrangements. I presented this to the National Pre-Alumni Council and the National Alumni Council boards, and it was approved. From there, I was appointed a chairwoman," Davidson said.

It's been a busy process for the Los Angeles native, but she seems to thrive from the heavy workload. "I came into this ready to hit the ground running because I'm really excited about making a difference," she added. She is a social work major and a sociology minor.

Any student currently enrolled in Bennett College can become a member of the local and national PAC. Through the organization, students are groomed to become more vested alums in their institutions where fundraising and community involvement are upheld.

Those interested in holding a national office, like Davidson, are selected by their individual organization to represent their college's PAC. An essay-based application process follows.
