Fisk University to Host 88TH Annual Spring Arts Festival

Fisk University will host the 88th annual Spring Arts Festival, beginning Monday, April 3 through Sunday, April 9. Themed "Fisk and the Arts: Journey through the Decades", the festival will showcase the current artistic contributions of students, faculty, and staff.

"For 87 years, the Spring Arts Festival has provided an outlet for the many talented students and faculty members that make up our Arts community," said Persephone Felder-Fentress, organizer of the 88th annual Spring Arts Festival. "Attendees will be treated to various vocal and instrumental performances, visual arts, a riveting Stagecrafters theatrical performance, and our annual Fisk for Fisk concert. There will be no shortage of talent and it is our sincerest hope that our students, faculty, staff, and community members enjoy the many activities throughout the week."

The schedule for the 88th annual Spring Arts Festival is as follows:

Sunday, April 2
Spring Arts Festival Church Service 9:30am | Fisk Memorial Chapel

Monday, April 3
"Slurp and Stroke" sponsored by the Tanner Art Society 6:00pm | Sub Shop of Spence Hall | Free Admission Student attendees will enjoy a fun, casual environment while creating their own paintings with guidance and instruction from a member of the Tanner Arts Society.

Tuesday, April 4
Student Film Festival 5:30pm | Appleton Room of Jubilee Hall Serving as a launch pad for student filmmakers as they begin their careers in the film and television industries, the Student Film Festival will showcase the cinematic works of Fisk students. Following the film festival with be a panel discussion featuring guest panelist Erika Swafford Green (ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder"), Tobias Truvillion (Fox's "Empire"), Robert Poole (Art Director for DEFY Media), Hazel Joyner Smith (Founder; International Black Film Festival), and Brian Owens (Artistic Director; Nashville Film Festival).

Wednesday, April 5
"Voices of Today" Concert 7:00pm | Fisk Memorial Chapel | Free Admission "Voices of Today" is a concert partnership between INTERSECTION Contemporary Music Ensemble, Choral Arts Link, and Fisk University. Featured performers include Gary Powell Nash, Jonathan Bailey Holland, Daniel Bernard Roumain, INTERSECTION musicians, and MET Opera Singers.

Stagecrafters theatrical performance of "Mr. Chickee's Funny Money" 10:00am | Fisk Memorial Chapel | Free Admission for Fisk students with ID; $5 for faculty, staff, and students without Fisk ID; $10 general admission "Mr. Chickee's Funny Money" is based on the novel of the same name by author Christopher Paul Curtis. Adapted to a stage play by David Ingber, the production will feature musical arrangements by award-winning musicians Lamont Dozier and Paris Dozier.

Friday, April 7
Stagecrafters theatrical performance of "Mr. Chickee's Funny Money" :00am | Fisk Memorial Chapel | Free Admission for Fisk students with ID; $5 for faculty, staff, and students without Fisk ID; $10 general admission "Mr. Chickee's Funny Money" is based on the novel of the same name by author Christopher Paul Curtis. Adapted to a stage play by David Ingber, the production will feature musical arrangements by award-winning musicians Lamont Dozier and Paris Dozier.
A Conversation with Briona Richardson of the Nashville Ballet 7:00pm | The Little Theatre |Free Admission As the Outreach & Education Coordinator, Briona is the face of Nashville Ballet throughout Middle Tennessee. A Nashville native, she has studied with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Hartford City Ballet and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. There will also be a special performance by dancers of the Malone Dance Studio.

Saturday, April 8
Music Discipline Annual Concert 7:00pm | Fisk Memorial Chapel | Free Admission

Sunday, April 9
Fisk for Fisk Concert 7:00pm | Fisk Memorial Chapel | $20 general admission and free for students with Fisk ID. Attendees will enjoy musical performances from Fisk University graduates Maritri Garrett '86, Jordan Holland '11, Arica Ellis '97, Joslyn Ford-Keel '04, Vernard Burton '99, and Debra Tillery '79.
