Hampton University News August 1, 2014 New Leadership Roles at HU, deans and director Hampton University is preparing for the new academic year with two promotions of faculty/staff, as well as welcoming a new face. Dr. Linda Malone-Colon was named dean of the HU School of Liberal Arts; Dr. Almarie E. Munley was named dean of the HU University College; and Ms. Tina D. Rollins was named director of the William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library. Dr. Linda Malone-Colon, HU School of Liberal Arts Dr. Linda Malone-Colon is the new dean of the HU School of Liberal Arts. Prior to her position, she served as a clinical and personality psychologist, and tenured associate professor and chair of the Department of Psychology at Hampton University. Malone-Colon is also the lead principal investigator for the Hampton University-Howard University Men's Violence Prevention Research Project. This project is part of the HU Minority Men's Health Initiative, which received first place honors for best research center award at the fourth annual HBCU Awards ceremony last month. Additionally, she is the founder and executive director of the National Center for African-American Marriages and Parenting at HU, a senior fellow at the Institute for American Values, and the former executive director of the National Council on Family Relations' National Healthy Marriage Resource Center. Dr. Malone-Colon earned a Ph.D. degree in personality psychology with a minor in neuro-psychology and a master's in Science degree in clinical psychology both at Howard University. "Dr. Linda Malone-Colon has a proven record of leadership at Hampton University," stated HU Provost, Dr. Pamela Hammond. Dr. Malone-Colon's extensive experiences as a psychologist, educator, and researcher will serve the University and the School of Liberal Arts well as HU becomes a research intensive university." Dr. Almarie E. Munley, HU University College Dr. Almarie E. Munley is the new dean for the HU University College. She comes to HU from Regent University where she was an assistant professor of business, leadership and information systems. Munley has been invited as a scholar and lecturer for leadership studies at universities across the globe: Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Universidad Catolica de Portugal, University of St. Joseph-Mascau, and Universidad Francisco Marroquin-Guatemala. In her research, training, and consultancies, she has worked with Bayer Guatemala, Pfizer, Abbott Central America, Copa Airlines, Banco del Café Guatemala, and a task force for the Peruvian government in building a country-wide leadership training program. Munley plans to support and grow the efforts of the HU University College to provide exceptional programs that will revitalize our learning communities across the globe. Her desire is to provide quality programs for HU both on-line and on-campus that will serve the vibrant population of Hampton Roads and beyond. Munley received her Ph.D. degree in Organizational Leadership and Master's degree in Education at Regent University. She received her undergraduate degree from Science Universidad Del Valle de Guatemala. "I am delighted to welcome Dr. Almarie Munley, dean of University College, to our "Home by the Sea," stated Hammond. Dr. Munley has had an exceptional career and brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to Hampton University. Her vast international experiences will facilitate Hampton's internationalization of its curriculum." Tina D. Rollins, HU William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library Tina D. Rollins is the new director of the HU William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library. She originally served as the assistant director of technical services at the William R. and Norma B. Library. Prior to her employment at HU, she was the collection development librarian at Alabama State University. She also held several positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Virginia State University. She is excited to assume duties in her new role and will work to ensure a "student-centered" focus on library facilities and services at Hampton University. Rollins holds a Masters in Library Services from North Carolina Central University and Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion University. "Hampton University was fortunate to find among its librarians an exceptional candidate for the Harvey Library, stated Hammond.
