Morgan Announces New Executive Faculty Appointments

Morgan State University President David Wilson today announced the appointment of Dr. Kevin Banks as vice-president of Student Affairs. With over 25 years of experience in the field, Dr. Banks comes to Morgan from the University of South Florida (USF) where he served as assistant vice president and dean of students. He has also served as dean of students at Pace University in New York and dean of Residential Life at Monmouth University of West Long Branch, New Jersey.

"Kevin Banks was part of an impressive effort at USF in the reinvention of its student experience and in making that experience one of the best in the region," says Dr. Wilson. "I'm excited to have someone who understands the meaning of the student experience here at Morgan."

Dr. Banks received his baccalaureate degree from Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, his master's in Business Management from Polytechnic University of New York, and a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University.

Colleagues in the communications industry are honoring one of Dr. Wilson's earlier appointments. The Society of Professional Journalists has recognized DeWayne Wickham for exceptional service to journalism, naming him a "Fellow of the Society," the group's highest honor.

Described as "one of the Black community's national treasures" by a former editor of USA Today sports weekly, Wickham joined the Morgan State University family in July, when he was appointed chair of the department of Communication Studies. He is a USA Today and Gannett columnist, one of the founders and past presidents of the National Association of Black Journalists, and recently served as interim chairman of North Carolina A&T State University's journalism department.

Morgan State University, founded in 1867, is a Carnegie classified doctoral research institution offering more than 60 academic programs leading to bachelor's degrees as well as programs at the master's and doctoral levels. As Maryland's public urban university, Morgan serves a multi-ethnic and multi-racial student body and seeks to ensure that the doors of higher education are opened as wide as possible to as many as possible.
