ASU selected as Tom Joyner Foundation School of the Month

Albany State University is the Tom Joyner Foundation (TJF) School of the Month for November 2016.  As the School of the Month, the TJF will promote raising funds for the university and highlight its programs for the entire year. ASU will be featured daily during the month of November.

"We are proud to partner with the Tom Joyner Foundation to raise money for our students and our university," said ASU President Arthur Dunning. "This is an opportunity to share Albany State's stellar academic programs and the exceptional work completed by our faculty, staff and students."

The foundation is led by nationally syndicated radio personality, Tom Joyner. The School of the Month program is the signature program of the Foundation. Annually, the Foundation selects 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with which to partner. During the month of the partnership, funds are raised by Tom Joyner in support of student scholarships and initiatives to assist with supporting the institution.

During the month of November, donations for Albany State University will be promoted on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, which has more than 8 million listeners each week in more than 115 markets. The university will also be featured on the foundation's websitehttp://tomjoynerfoundation.org/. ASU hopes to raise $300,000 through this campaign.

"Our distinction as a TJF School of the Month allows us to greatly expand our fundraising efforts to the millions of listeners and website visitors of Mr. Joyner's show," said Chanta Haywood, vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the ASU Foundation. "This level of exposure is sure to take Albany State to new heights. Every single dollar given to ASU via Mr. Joyner's Foundation flows directly back to the university; this is a testament to his commitment to the success of HBCUs."

In addition to assisting with fundraising, the Tom Joyner Foundation will award a $1,500 scholarship to a successful male ASU student every week in November. The Hercules Scholars program, named in honor of Joyner's father, serves to celebrate male students who exhibit academic excellence, leadership skills and community services. Award recipients will be chosen by TJF and announced on the Tom Joyner Morning show every Thursday.
