Del State student wins $25,000 in support of University costs
Bryce Banks, a Del State sophomore Natural Resources/Wildlife Management major, recently received some strong financial support by recently winning a sweepstakes.
Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU) has awarded Mr. Banks a $25,000 for being one of its four winners in its College Grant Sweepstakes. The award will go toward Mr. Banks's college expenses.
BBU's College Grant Sweepstakes took place last September as a part of Hispanic Heritage Month. Through their partnership with Univision, the company hoped that this sweepstakes would ignite a conversation on the important of supporting Hispanic students. The percentage of Hispanics that attend higher education lags, and they often face a lack of financial resources.
"I am so thankful for Bimbo Bakeries USA for providing me with this grant," said Banks. "It will greatly help me with my education and help me pursue my dreams in agriculture and natural resources that the FFA sparked in me."
Banks said Del State became his higher education choice because of its agriculture department and his desire to be close to his family. After graduation, he hopes to pursue a career in wildlife rehabilitation or conservation. His interest in agriculture and passion for wildlife stems from his high school involvement in Future Farmers of America (FFA).
Bimbo Bakeries USA - which is part of Grupo Bimbo, a Mexican multinational company that boasts to be the world's largest baking company - produces many bread and sweet baked goods such as Sara Lee, Thomas English Muffins, Enténmann's, Stroehmann', and many other brands.
