Student Affairs Receives $1.8 Million in Grant Funding

Dr. Bernadine Duncan, Director of Student Counseling Services, was awarded two grants totaling approximately $1.8 million.
The first award is a Title III grant of $180,000 per year for five years, for a total of $900,000. The primary goal is to enhance Student Counseling Services in order receive IACS Accreditation for the center and improve the risk assessment program in order to better serve currently enrolled students at PVAMU. The second award is a Victims Assistance: College Initiative Grant from the State of Texas for $293,930 per year for three years totaling $881,796. The primary goal of this grant is to advocate for victims of sexual and domestic violence as well as train and educate the campus community in recognizing and effectively assisting sexual violence victims. The grant will also assist in satisfying the requirements of the CampusSav Act, fund the infrastructure of the newly formed Women's Center and hire more staff to assist in the advocacy efforts of the Center for victims who utilize these services.
