Cheyney University to Present "My Son Matters" Photography Exhibition by Denise Allen

The exhibition My Son Matters! by photographer Denise Allen will open from 4:30 - 6:30 pm on Thursday, November 5 at Cheyney University's Biddle Hall Gallery.  The show features striking portraits of black mothers with their sons.
Allen hopes the show gives people an opportunity to see the children "through the eyes of their mother" and allows viewers to imagine what the loss of a child could do to a mother and those around her. Allen says it is also a chance for non-black viewers to see what a black mother faces in raising her child.
My Son Matters! is a continuation of By the Content of My Character: Portraits of African American Young Men,"a project Allen began in 2012 after 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida.
The exhibit will be open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 pm and 11:30 - 1:00 pm Tuesdays through December 7.
