Remote Access to Licensed Databases in the Earl S. Richardson Library

@ Morgan State University (MSU)

An “authorized user” is anyone in the MSU community who has a
library-activated *BearCard *that one uses for remote-access log-in.  The
activation period is one calendar-year from the date of initial
activation.  First-timers must activate their *BearCards *at the
Information / Access Services Desk (IASD); however, they can execute the
registration form online.  Thereafter, the card can be re-activated
remotely by calling or e-mailing the IASD.  Authorized users are validated
through the University’s APEX System to ensure that they are “currently
authorized” members of the MSU community.  Distance education students are
authorized through APEX and current lists of registered distance education
students are sent to our Access Services / Systems Librarian by
departments, validating their students' status.

Subject: Questions – Texas Southern University

We have a discussion on campus about remote access to licensed databases.
How is that handled at your universities?  How do you define “authorized
users”?  Currently enrolled students?  Do students who are between sessions
(summer, after December holidays, etc.) have access?  Do students, for
instance who were last enrolled in 2014 have remote access? Thanks…jlp
