ASU Broadens Global Initiative With India
By Tina Joly
Alabama State University has signed a collaborative agreement with the Gujarat Forensic Science University in Ahmedabad, India, as part of ASU's growing global mission.
Dr. Shree Singh, director of ASU's Center for NanoBiotechnology Research, recently traveled to India and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University.
Under the agreement, faculty from ASU will travel to the Gujarat Forensic Science University for training and to perform research. Faculty and students from Gujarat University will come to ASU for the same training.
Singh said the MOU is an important part of ASU's global initiative.
"It makes ASU one of the few institutions in the world to form collaborations in forensic science. Our students will conduct work in a world-class facility, and our faculty will have an opportunity for research and training in the area of forensic science."
This is the third MOU between ASU and a university in India. ASU signed MOUs with the University of Delhi and Sindhu Mahavidyalaya University in 2010. Several business agreements with companies in India also have been reached.
ASU has educational and business agreements in several other countries, including China, Scotland and South Korea.
