FVSU to hold power workshop for young women

It's that time of year when those who promised to study harder, lose weight and eat better actually come up with a plan to achieve their goals. For extra motivation and inspiration, young women at Fort Valley State University get a little help from like-minded sister friends at a summit. The 2012 Spring Sip-n-Chat is designed to boost self-confidence, sharpen networking skills and polish an upstart's professional look. Hosted by First Lady Betty Rivers and friends, the event is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 in the C.W. Pettigrew Center, rooms 102-104.

"We're back by popular demand," said Rivers. "We hold these Sip-n-Chats because we feel our students want them." Surveys measuring student satisfaction are collected after each event, according to the first lady. So far, the average ratings have measured 4.5 on a 5.0 scale.

The theme this year is "Communication Yes; Drama, No Way!" Workshop topics will tackle how to handle toxic relationships and a segment examining what men know (and don't always tell women) about relationships.  A royal showcase will spotlight FVSU legends such as Fort Valley High and Industrial School's second principal, Henry A. Hunt, and his wife Florence J. Hunt. Wildcat wordsmiths will deliver a spoken word presentation about self-love and respect.

Business casual attire is required. Refreshments will be served prior to the event. For more information, contact (478) 825-6315.
