H. Councill Trenholm State College News July 15, 2013 Trenholm State Dean Named Instructional Officer of the Year Barbara Anne Spears, dean of instruction at H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College was named 2012-13 Instructional Officer of the Year by the Instructional Officer's Association (IOA) during their summer conference in Orange Beach. The award of distinction is given by the IOA for outstanding service and leadership in the role of instructional administrator within the Alabama Community College System (ACCS). Spears began her career at Trenholm State in December 2006 as the dean of academic services. She chairs the Academic Council, is active in the two-year college system, has served four years as treasurer for the IOA, and is the past president of the Alabama Community College System Association (ACCA). Prior to employment at Trenholm State, Spears worked at Central Alabama Community College and the Alabama Department of Education. Trenholm State's President Sam Munnerlyn was beaming with pride when he said, "Dean Spears is truly the consummate professional, a hardworking, effective, hands-on administrator. Being named instructional officer of the year by her colleagues is a great honor and demonstrates that her work here at Trenholm State and throughout the two-year college system is recognized and highly respected."
