Allen University to Host its Tenth Annual Richard Allen / UNCF Awards Gala
When: Friday, March 27, 2014
Times: 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM - (Silent Auction Reception @ 6:00 PM / Dinner @ 7:00 PM) 

Location: Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC 29201
Allen University will be hosting the Tenth Annual Richard Allen Awards Gala on Friday, March 27, 2014 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The purpose of the Gala is to raise scholarship funds for deserving students to attend Allen University. This black tie event will include a silent auction, music by the Allen University Jazz Ensemble, banquet dinner, and dancing. The Richard Allen Awards, named in honor of African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church founder and Allen University namesake Richard Allen, will be presented to several invited guests from the South Carolina area who have made outstanding contributions to the City of Columbia and to our society. Individual tickets for this fundraising event are $125 with tables starting at $1500.  Sponsorships are welcomed.
This years’ honorees are:

Steven Benjamin - Mayor City of Columbia
Myles Cohen - C.E.O Pratt Industries
Mignon L. Clyburn - Chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission
Mary Miller McClellan - President of the National Collation of 100 Black Women- Columbia

Allen University has been a UNCF member institution since April 2005. Each year the organization provides college scholarships for more than 60,000 young people from low- and moderate-income families. Since its founding in 1944, the UNCF has raised more than $3.6 billion dollars to help more than 400,000 students earn a college degree. The organization also helps to provide financial support for its various historically black college and university (HBCU) member institutions (www.uncf.org).
