Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  I'm celebrating the announcement of the HBCU Library Alliance 5th Biennial Membership Meeting, scheduled Sunday through Tuesday, October 21-23, 2012 at the New Orleans Marriott , 555 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA.  "Protecting our Legacy, Preserving our Story: A Decade of Investment in HBCU Libraries" is the theme of this most significant meeting.

Cynthia Charles, Dillard University (LA), will chair the Membership Meeting Planning Committee.  Assisting her are Mary Jo Fayoyin, Savannah State University (GA), Emma Bradford Perry and Dawn Kight, Southern University and A&M College at Baton Rouge (LA), Shatiqua Mosby-Wilson, Southern University at New Orleans, Blanche Sanders, Alcorn State University (MS) and Adrienne Webber, South Carolina State University.

The Photographic Preservation project is sponsoring a day-long Pre-Conference on Sunday, October 21st.  The Pre-Conference will provide additional education on photograph preservation, allow demonstration project participants to share their experiences, and build capacity and knowledge throughout the HBCU community. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is graciously offering a travel stipend of $600.00 to the first fifty institutions that register a staff member for the Membership Meeting and attend the Pre-Conference. The stipend will be processed after the Membership Meeting.  Look for a registration link to the website in November.

Dr. John Silvanus Wilson, Executive Director, White House Initiative on HBCUs, has been invited to deliver the keynote speech. I should know his availability within the next few weeks.

As we build the agenda, I'll reach out to you requesting your participation with conference presentations and sessions.

I'm excited about the accomplishments of the HBCU Library Alliance and look forward to celebrating a decade of investment in HBCU libraries.

Respectfully,

Sandra
